RE: Webcam..someone must have thought of this?

A couple of thoughts immediately spring to mind...

What about light sensitivity?... - I guess you'd probably be OK if you only
used B&W cameras with IR illumination (I believe colour ones are
rubbish in low light...) - otherwise your sensors would be completely blind
as soon as it got dark and anyone could move around right in front of them
with impunity so long as they didn't turn any lights on (or a torch) ...

USB *can* co further with repeaters, IIRC abour 5 repeaters can be be
daisy-chained to give something like 25-30 feet of available cable length,
but this really is a complete bodge!

I rather imagine that the combination of both a PIR *and* a camera in the
same housing would be the best bet... - which is probably why such things
exist!!

:-)

Subject: [ukha_d] Webcam..someone must have thought of this?

Hi,

How about using a webcam instead of a PIR etc for house occupancy and
also turn room lights etc on when entering a room?

also can be used as burgular alarm etc when your out?

The only downdside is that usb can only be run 6ft?

So would need a rs232 adaptor or something like that?

Aplogies if this has been discussed in the past!

Any thoughts?

Regards

Gary
