MCE - SlingBox in Software?

I installed that WebGuide3 for MCE last night, very nice additional
functionality, and now I can program my MCE box from work (via VPN to save
opening it up to the Net). I didn't realise I could play all my MCE
recordings on other PCs round the house too, excellent.

This got me thinking, surely it should be possible to create a SlingBox (
http://www.slingmedia.com/ ) in
software? You have all the elements, live
and recorded TV, net access etc, all you'd need is some sort of plug-in to
encode and stream the video. I'm sure that's where the SlingBox's smarts
lie and maybe it's not a simple task? But with enough CPU horsepower you'd
think it should be a goer?
