RE: Dell Deal or Similar?
Possibly - depends on the model, but Dell do tend to use unusual PSUs on
some of their Optiplexes, particularly the small form factors. That said,
every component Dell uses is 'off the shelf' from somewhere (apart from
som=
e
MBs, again in the Opti SX/GX's), so as long as you do what you did, and
research the correct replacement, it's no big deal. Compare the guts of a
Dell to something like a Packard Bell, and you'll see who uses the
'household brands' compared to the lower quality generic stuff.

Subject: Re: [ukha_d] Dell Deal or Similar?
I've had problems in the past with my old Dell. The power supply blew
and the only compatible replacement was 50+ ukp via Dell. Quite by
chance I decided to look it up on the net as it looked to be standard
size. I'm grateful I did as I found stories of people replacing it with
a standard power supply (as I nearly did as part of PD to isolate the
problem) and blowing their MB as the connections look the same but
aren't compatible.
Do these Dells have the same problem?
Thanks,
Simon
