GAH! - I shoudl read things more carefully, - I hadn't actually spotted the
fact that Dean had specified 192.1.x.x... - that is indeed not part of the
RFC1918 private address space, and are therefore IANA issued public
addresses...

The only "reserved" addresses that start with 192 all have a
second
octet of 168.
IANA has set aside three ranges of IP addresses for use on Private
networks. They are:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)
So if you are trying to scan you entire internal network, you should
probably use 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.254.254.
