Freeview broadcasts (was Re: Does this exist?)

Unfortunately, this is not answering the question, but is a related
question. I live pretty close to the local television transmitter, so
I didn't need much of an aerial to receive analogue broadcasts with
an old USB tuner. However, it's almost impossible to receive Freeview
signals on my Nebula box without connecting it to a proper external aerial.

This to me is an extreme hinderance for the take-up of digital
television, especially if one wants to watch television on a laptop
or in a part of the house that does not have an external aerial
connection. I understand there are plans to boost the digital signals
when analogue is eventually turned-off, but does anyone know to the
extent this will happen? For example, will it be possible to utilise
portable aerials in areas where this is currently possible with analogue.

Regards,

Kevin Meynell
