Re: Decent Network Switch
I've been seeing too much cr*p from D-Link and Linksys lately. The
only one
that hasn't been dodgy is Netgear. One site I've been going to has
GS724T's-
only a little more (20 ish quid) than the unmanaged but has a lot more
features, will vlan, CoS trunk and rack mount.
The GS725T is going to be my next switch purchase and in the not too
distant
future if I can get this parking ticket court fine quashed (I thought it
was
over and done with till I got the final demand letter before
men-take-stuff-away letter).

Subject: [ukha_d] Decent Network Switch
Whilst we're on the subject of decent network kit, it would appear
that I am now in need of a new switch. Looks like my Linksys 8-port
GB switch died sometime overnight last night, as every device in the
house seems to have dropped off the LAN. SWMBO has done a power
cycle of it (I'm not home to "fix" it myself *), and I want to
get a
replacement ordered up today if possible so I can install it ASAP.
I'd prefer to get a rackmount one, so I'm looking at between 16-24
port GB switches. Managed is a nice to have, but frankly not
essential...
Looking around a couple of my usual suppliers of PC kit, I've come
across:
D-LINK DGS-1216T (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=324)
for £180
at Scan,
Netgear JGS516UK
(http://www.netgear.co.uk/mountable_network_switch_jgs516.php)
for
£150 at Ebuyer,
Not to mention a few others...
Does anyone have any strong thoughts or recommendations with regard
to either of these, or more precisely between the various mainstream
manufacturers (Netgear, DLINK, USR, Linksys, Belkin, 3COM, et al)...
Many thanks.
Paul G.
(* "fix" implies some strongly percussive maintenance...)
