Hi Andy

I think found a solution!
Barix have just released a utility for this purpose. It's called
audiologger and it's a VB application which runs as a service and
simply produces mp3 files in predefined folders/files using naming
scheme configurable via a .ini files which the application reads.

I looked at TR and others like it. These programs just record the
whatever is playing through the windows sound card. In some cases
they also commit to file mp3 streams from internet broadcast radio
stations. Barix kit does the sound conversion to mp3 at hardware
level and then sends it to an IP address & port. It can also do an
internet radio broadcast so apps like winamp can play it back.
We just need to copy these streams to files to a pc on the network
and have some way to identify & archive them.
I have ordered some kit from laser so that we can run some trials.
If anyone is interested, I can let them know how we get on. I still
need to sort out the microphone connection. I am bit lost with all
the terminology (XLR connectors, phantom power, etc.) XLR seems to
be a 3 wire connection commonly used in the pro audio industry for
mics and low level output to amps. There is power needed for
condenser mics which is supplied via one of these wires. But how to
connect it to the Annuncicom IC? That comes with a 3.5mm jack and a
3 wire screw-down connection both for the mic.
Ah well, some searching & self education on the net might get me
there :-)

Thanks for the help Andy.
