Re: Need help to automate my food management.
I was toying with the an idea that tackles this from another
direction.
On my intranet I have pages for viewing my DVD database, in the similar
style to Blockbuster's website. In the top left, I have a window that
displays a random dvd cover, changing every 4 seconds. This has been
very handy when it comes to deciding what to watch - movies often come
up that we'd completely forgotten about.
So I thought I'd apply the same idea to meals - we can never decide what
to eat and end up having the same few meals far to often. Random
suggestions could be used to build up a plan for the week ahead so I
could avoid going to the supermarket every day. Once the meals are
chosen, it would then be possible to create a shopping list. I would
then cross out everything I'd already got - much easier than trying to
track everything as it gets used.
On top of this, it would be possible to add pages to order items (run
out of bin bags? Just add them to the list using the screen in the
kitchen, and they won't be forgotten next shop). It would look similar
to an online grocery store, but there would be far fewer items - you
only need to list "eggs" rather than all the available varieties.
