Thanks everyone for the advice, I'll check it out further now it's not
a no,
some very good points made and I'll have a chat to her before she gets
access so she knows the ground rules. I like the fact I can see a log of
the
chat, like it was pointed out it's just like checking they are still in the
garden, I guess sample checking would suffice. I think its cybersitter she
already has installed on her PC so I'll see what that does as far as MSN is
concerned.
Feel a bit more ok with letting her use it now.
Cheers
Keith

Keith,
I think it is difficult to stop her using it.
All my younger cousins use it to chat with their friends, but it is very
easy for a random person to start talking to you unless your daughter takes
the actions to block them and only make herself to be visible to her
friends. But would she do that?
Unfortunately it seems that you have to take the initiative and monitor the
people who your daughter talks to. I believe that you can record the
conversation logs etc. I don't believe there are any automatic ways of
restricting access.

Hi All,
My 9 year old asked today if she can use MSN Messenger as a number of her
friends at school use it. To be honest I've always avoided it as I thought
it was like a seedy chat thing, don't ask me why. Anyway I don't really
know
much about it but I'm sure you guys will, would it be safe for her to use,
or could anyone start chatting to her? Any advice greatly appreciated.
Keith
