Brad,

You have made the classic mistake of thinking the wire colurs are not
significant...

The colours signify pairs, Blue / Bl White, Orange / Or White, Green /
Gn White, Brown / Brown White.

Each pair is twisted about itself within the cable to reduce
'crosstalk'.

The two colour schemes shown on the network connections are A & B, B is
usually used these days but either (as long as you use the same at both
ends) is fine.

Your problem may not show up on short lengths but the colours are
important, as are the twists. When terminating you should untwist as
little as possible.

The double set of colours
(and no pin numbers) on the back confused me for a bit but I guess
this is for the two standards that I've read about - anyhow, am I
right in thinking that as long as I used the same method at the start
and finish then it doesn't matter what colour I used i.e as long a
pin1 goes to pin1 then who cares if it's blue, green, orange etc.
Might confuse someone else but should't stop the network from working.

Cheers,

Brad
