Lots of those aren't really complete HA systems but do bits - like
lighting or security well but aren't too hot on other bits.

What exactly do you want to achieve?

You may have to buy into several systems and get them talking to get a
really good system. I have Comfort for good alarm features linked to
HomeVision Pro hardware for excellent scheduled HA and interfacing and a
load of software like HomeSeer, Main Lobby, xAP applications etc.
