Hmmm. this raises an interesting point.
The government as encouraging people NOT to leave kit on standby but to
turn
it off completely when not in use. Skys Multiroom contract prevents this
because as you say, if the box does not respond when they poll it to
"phone
home" then they cancel your contract or charge you a full
subscription.
I wonder if there is a way to "persuade" SKY to make the phone
calls during
a period when you would normally have the box turned on. Having said that,
because this one is in the bedroom it probably isnt turned on that often
unless you use if for recording as well.

Is it actually the fan that is noisy or is it transmitted noise through the
case. Try a rubber gasket (old mouse mat perhaps) between the existing fan
and case along with nlyon screws. There MUST be a seal between the body of
the fan and the case otherwise it wont move air efficiently so "stand
off"
type bolts wouldnt work.
