Our small independent local hire-shop lost our business when I
discovered what he'd been charging us for the hire of a slate-cutter -
SWMBO having no reference-points other than the big-company catalogue,
she'd paid what he'd asked.   After having hired it for a week, and then
another week, I happened on the invoice & realised what was happening
(ie: in another week we'd have paid for it).   When she took it back,
having bought one herself, he said he'd been hoping to go to the Bahamas
- or was it Barbados ? - on the proceeds !   'bit short-sighted, really ...
