RE: Electronic Wizards
I do this to VFD displays, using an MSS100 to drive them (I just run
the
RS232 TX wire to a bus block, then out over CAT5, rather than proper serial
to each display).
displays useful stuff from xPLHal server - current track playing, caller
ID,
that sort of thing.

I have seen a few 1-wire devices that would allow this, with any hitachi
based lcd
I seem to recall hobby boards do one.
