If you have microfilters (i.e. you are using ADSL) you don't need the
ring wire. There are countless articles on the inet desribing the bad
effect of ring wire (also acting as antenae channeling all the
electrical noise into the line). All microfilters generate their own
ring signal. You can actually improve your SNR (sometimes quite
signifficantly depending on the instalation you have) by disconnecting
ring wire from all sockets.
