Hi Jonathan,
Can't help with the enescope but a neat solution for the hole is
Vothole http://www.vothole.co.nz/
I have a bag of these I bought from somewhere online, they look very
good for large holes. I have not used my ones as I manage to make
small holes! If the hole is small your solution works for me!
