Dean,

Sorry to be a kill joy but garden / external installations using 230v need
=
part P certification. You are committing a =91Criminal Offence=92 if the
in=
stallation is not certified.
=20
If you decide to go down the DIY route and arrange a third party to
certify=
you may want to get the opinion of the person who will sign off as it may =
differ from other advice.
=20
I would personally use SWA but depending on the fittings you propose this
m=
ay be physically difficult. You may not have provision for connecting two
c=
able glands (in/out). alternatively installing 3 way =91pratley=92 boxes
or=
similar pushes the price up considerably.
=20
Alternatively, depending on cable length, Low Voltage (SELV) may be a
bette=
r option but you design may still require Part P certification for the
230v=
part (LV).

I've struggled to find any decent info on the Web for this, so hoping
peopl=
e
can offer their thoughts.
If was considering installing some 230V lights into the edging of a patio
(e.g. HYPERLINK "http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TLW50GU.html"http://w=
ww.tlc--direct.co.-uk/Products/-TLW50GU.html ) whats the correct
way to cable them ?
All the regs seem to say it has to be SWA - but daisy chaining a number of
those fittings with properly terminated SWA sounds like a nightmare.
Would "hi-tuf" (
<HYPERLINK "http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index/Hi-Tuf/index=
.html"http://www.tlc--direct.co.-uk/Main_Index/-Cable_Index/-Hi-Tuf/index.-=
html>
HYPERLINK "http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index/Hi-Tuf/index.=
html"http://www.tlc--direct.co.-uk/Main_Index/-Cable_Index/-Hi-Tuf/index.-h=
tml) or
similar be sufficient ?=20
The intention would be to run SWA from the main CU to a weatherproof box in
a discrete corner with RCD+LD11/AD10 inside - then run cables from there to
the lighting.
