RE: Sat on a Toilet Sensor ?

...That should of course be "button" not bottom... :-)

Peter,

Light level sensor in the bowel... mmmm... don't fancy having to wire
that one up...sounds like a Hazardous environment to me.

Following on from your suggestion of pressure pad/strain gauges fitted
to the seat.. I'm thinking that *may* a wireless door bell bottom could
be fixed under the seat with the receiver unit behind the wall, much
better than having to run wires around the bowl..I guess it would just
be a case of adjusting the "tension" of the button spring so that
the
weight of the seat alone didn't activate it.

One final off-the-wall suggestion, put an electrode on each side of
the toilet seat, when the person sits down they make the circuit and
you can use that signal to start the fan (a bit like the battery
testers that were fitted to the sides of some duracell batteries).

This could also have a secondary use - after a set time you could use
the
same electrodes to give a quick shock to remind you that you've been
sitting
there for just over 2 hours.

Other options for switching could include: a light level sensor in the
bowl
combined with a proximity sensor to confirm that someone is sitting down
(wouldn't work at night so well). Personally I'd use the load guage or
some
sort of pressure pad, but I'd fit them to the underside of the seat, as
the
sensitivity will be enhanced as the no-load setting will just be the
weight
of the seat. Something like: http://tinyurl.com/2bge96
