Asterisk will also allow you to do a lot more with IVR stuff.

For example if you have things that can be controlled by a command line
(primarily linux, but you could put an ssh server on a window box and use
expect scripting under linux), then you can dial into you system. Stick in
your pin number, and then have menu's to switch stuff on and off or get
spoken status reports.

I have a motion (a bit like zoneminder, which could probably do the same)
linux cctv system, and if a camera reports movement I can get it to ring me
and tell me with a digital dorothy voice. The same goes for if a server
crashes.
