Rain Gauge options

'thought this interesting :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jacob-Jensen-Weather-Station-Gauge/dp/tech-
data/B0006ZOYB0/ref=de_a_smtd/026-0480521-5943652

'seems to use the same collector as several others ... difficult to
be certain ... if so, might be self-emptying ... ??

'wonder how well they work ... eg: would the heavy rain we've had
rather a lot of recently have over-loaded it ... and would the
wireless / radio link between collector & display unit clash with
other wireless gear ??

'no idea if linking such things into an HA set-up would be
possible ... 'though if the collector works on a counting principle,
maybe that allows an option for a wired connection ?

also noticed an acoustic rain gauge, which sounds (sorry) an
interesting option :

'wonder if feeding the output from an acoustic sensor submerged in a
pool or pond into some sort of neural net program would work ... ?
