RE: Fw: Easiest way to setup vpn into home network
..ahh yes.. I'd forgotten that one, I used to have an 11b WAP as well
as
the 11g one, the 11b only did WEP and was used as a mac filtered access
point for the kids Nintendo DS's. They've now broke them so no need for
it :-)

I'm coming round to this way of thinking too, i.e. separate devices for
each
function. Partly because the Fuji tablet can only run WEP on it's
wireless
card so I'll have a separate 'b' WAP for that, but also for the other
reasons you mention. And if the W-LAN isn't on, it can't be hacked...
Cheers,
Tim.

Personally I wouldn't (and haven't) buy a wireless router, rather by a
wired router and add a wireless access point to your network. That way
you can upgrade the wireless for faster speed (or even the router for
ADSL2+) at a later date. You can have the access point turned off at
certain times of the day for security and power saving , I do this with
an X10 Appliance module and HomeVision, the WAP is turned off whenever
the house is unoccupied or in sleep mode. Having a separate WAP also
means I can position the WAP for best coverage withing the house, rather
than being limited to where the router can connect to the BT socket. You
could even use multiple WAP's to get better roaming coverage around the
house/garden..
