RE: Smart Home Show 2007 - Review
The videos and show review look fantastic, must have been a huge task!
Having been so busy on the stand it was difficult to look around so the
videos have been a great way to see what I missed.
>From an exhibitors perspective there was a very different feel to the
show
this year. While visitor numbers were good it was the change in attitude
and
knowledge that was most noticeable. Many people came onto stands already
knowing something about the technology - "oh that's the stuff that
does...."
rather than wandering past with a blank stare and asking "what's it
all
about then?". The association with Home Building & Renovating also
means
that many of the visitors are planning or building/renovating. However this
year many knew what they wanted and wanted to find who could do it, I very
rarely was asked to justify why would someone want to put the technology
into their house, rather more about how it would be implemented and typical
costs. It seems like home automation has matured in the eyes of the masses
at last!

Importance: High
I've just returned from the Smart Home Show (22-25 March 2007) and in this,
its third incarnation at the NEC in Birmingham, the public was treated to
the best show yet!
In a first for Automated Home, we have videos (
http://www.youtube. <http://www.youtube.com/automatedhome>
com/automatedhome
) from the show which should give a
good taste of the event for those that couldn't make it and hopefully show
some items that you may have missed even if you did visit.
The first thing that struck me as I entered Hall 9 were the crowds, and
indeed every exhibitor I spoke to, without exception, confirmed a very
healthy increase in visitors numbers to their stands this year. It's
encouraging to see the interest in home automation grow amongst the general
public. The other thing I noticed within a few minutes was the quality of
the stands themselves. There were over 60 exhibitors this year and they
were
the most professional I have seen yet. Here's a taster of some of our
personal highlights...
