Recommendation required for ADSL modem + 4 port Router

Hi,
I currently have a Netgear DG834v1 ADSL modem and 4 port router,
however, for the past few weeks I've been experiencing very slow
browsing, download speeds and mail delivery (I'm with Tiscali - 1MB).
On investigation it seems that I'm regularly loosing the connection to
the (Tiscali)server (sometimes every minute or less) coupled with very
slow broadband speeds when I am connected. I occasionally (maybe once
a day) get the full speed of around 1MB.
Anyway, whilst I'm still trying to resolve this with Tiscali
engineering support (yawn!!), it may be that my modem will need to be
replaced, so...... anyone got any recommendations?
I don't need anything fancy, just something that will work out of the
box and continue to work!
