Idiot's intro to CBUS

I am just starting to plan the lighting / electrics / burglar alarm
for a major refurbishment of our house (whole new roof & living
space on bungalow, major revamp down stairs & a couple of
extensions).

In the old house, I had Comfort & X10 din mounted dimmers /
switches.  Since this revamp gives me a chance to do things from
scratch, I am tempted by the reliability / features of CBUS...
however I could do with a quick heads up as to what people's
opinions are of it (price vs functionality vs WAF).

If I went for a Comfort alarm again, what is the most reliable
(ideally 2 way) communication mechanism?

I appreciate that much of this may have been covered in other

If there are other options that people think I should consider,
