Depends if you think a remote control is actually automation.

I think mine is automated as the system (ie CBUS and Comfort) directly
control all the AV - not just on and off, but off when system is armed,
off when no activity in the room for 2 hrs, etc, etc.

Also does auto switching when XBMC is activated (switches amp for me,
detects XBOX voltage for current status, switches plasma on if its not
already)

A remote control in your hand wont do all that

It's remote from the devices it's controlling...and it uses infrared and
rs232
