RE: GSM gateways
An alternative to this which is just starting to appear is GSM/WiFi
handsets
that do VoIP when in range of an AP and GSM elsewhere, the transfer is
apparently seamless.
Not had experience yet as I don't have a WiFi handset, but very interested!

Subject: [ukha_d] GSM gateways
Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience of GSM gateways? I have none, but think
they sound like a good idea and I'm thinking of using one on PAYG in my
holiday home rather than install a fixed phone line to save the
installation
charge and ground rent on the line.
There seem to be a lot of different ones around and found this website
www.gsm-fct-gateways.co.uk who have a good range, but haven't got back to
me
yet.
What I want to know is:
1. are they seamless as a phoneline - i.e. do they give a dial tone on pick
up, 2. could I connect Comfort to it as the main phoneline (i.e. avoid the
UCM GSM) 3. finally possibly with the addition of a suitable router could I
avail of GPRS/EDGE for a WAN connection?
The last point is the nice to have but the first two are must haves.
Thanks
Pete
