Jim,

Thanks for the recommendation below, it seems like a good bit of kit,
especially with the itunes server built in and the ability to have
bittorrent downloading without a PC. One thing though, do you use xbmc
and can it access the Synology device? I'm a bit wary of NAS's that
need you to install programs on your pc...

Cheers,
Pedro

I run a Syology DS207 with a pair of 500G drives (in mirrored
configuration,
but they can be set however you like). Price comes in at about =A3350.

They do 4 disk versions and a number of variants aimed at different
markets.

I looked at the Terrastation, but the extra you pay for hot-swap drives
(100% uptime isn't important to me) wasn't worth it.

Pleased with what I've got (fast Ethernet transfer and it's whisper
quiet),
I'm sure you will get as many different options as there are replies!

Jim

All,

I'm sure a lot of you have been the process of deciding on which NAS to
buy
and I need to tap into that knowledge for some advice.

I'm after some networked storage and currently need about 500Gb, which I
would also like backed up, hopefully on the same device. So I think a
2Tb
device should do for a while but to be on the safe side it should be
able to
accept USB drives to expand capacity.

I've been looking at the terastation pro II for GBP613 delivered due to
price and capacity.

Before I bite the bullet, does anyone have any recommendations for this
device or another?

Thanks in advance,
Pedro
