Well put Kevin.
In addition I'd mention the Reflex concept of basic (although not
that basic) operation in the event of the failure of Cortex /
Computer. Instead of a smart house that completely fails it reverts
to basic operation that keep working in an automated way.
As for the ugliness or not of the modules, I use metal faceplates and
use the switch as digital input to a module in the ceiling, cupboard
or floor. As for the sensors most of these are up high and basically
just white so not distracting to the eye.
