Subject: [ukha_d] Vegie Garden Irrigation Installation

Hi Guys

Have just finished my vegie garden irrigation installation...

I decided to use Gerry Dupreys Sprinkler controller and built a 10 zone
version ....
http://www.rgbled. <http://www.rgbled.org/sprinkler/index.html>
org/sprinkler/index.html

I wasnt looking forward to verboarding all components and decided to use a
pcb for the pic micro and veroboard the solid state relays....Got the pcb
from Futurelec , to get it to work i had to remove 3 resistors and cut one
track...
http://www.futurlec
<http://www.futurlec.com/PIC16F877_Controller.shtml>
.com/PIC16F877_Controller.shtml

After waiting approx 8 weeks for Futurelec to supply some solid state
relays
i decided to order some from a local company Ocean Controls...
http://www.oceancon
<http://www.oceancontrols.com.au/relays/ssr/solid_state_relays.htm>
trols.com.au/relays/ssr/solid_state_relays.htm

Built the controller and bench tested it and all worked fine...Next hurdle
was the installation..
I ran the cables from the vegie garden controller to my water tank system
and from there to my garden shed....The cable run would be quite long for a
serial interface so i decided to install an 8 way switch in my water tank
controller and connect it via a 10 pair cable in my garden shed back to the
switch in humble node 0.....Spent the few days i had off over Christmas to
connect the wiring ,valves etc and test....Connected the vegie garden
controller to a MSS100 serial to ethernet device wrote some xPL
Determinators and all was good...Did have to modify my water tank plc
program to start the pump whenever the vegie garden pump solid state relay
was active....I allowed the vegie garden controller priority over the other
Modes ie harvesting , garden bed irrigation ....All thats left to do is to
write a recurring event in xPL Manager so that the vegie patch gets
irrigated every morning....Will probably modify my water tank plc program
so
that if the water level gets low it wont water the garden beds ...Would
like
to thank Gerry Duprey for making his sprinkler project available to the
public and also for writing the xPL Plugin...
Heres some pics of my install....
