RE: MS Home Server
I've been a big fan of WHS throughout its beta period and now I'm
quite
happily running the released version. For me, it just works. I've currently
got 2.6TB of storage attached; 2x320GB internal disks and 4x500GB USB
disks.
I've not been bitten by the data corruption bug that exists, but then,
working with open files (such as an Outlook PST file) on a remote share
that's duplicated isn't something I'd ever be tempted to do, anyway.
I've also moved my mail server onto there (I use vPOP3) which has allowed
me
to decommission the old machine that is used to run on.
The machine itself is a Dell Dimension 3000 with a 2.8GHz P4 and 1GB RAM.

Subject: [ukha_d] MS Home Server
I know a number of you guys have been running the various beta version of
MS
Home Server and I wondered what the general feeling was?
I am replacing my rather large, 6 year old and over cumbersome storage
server with a NAS, probably a rack mounted Linksys, but I still need a
small
server to run a couple of applications. My first thought was to keep the
old
beast running but it does seem a waste of space and energy so I've have a
google around and found http://www.tranquilpc-shop.co.uk/
and they do what
looks like a very nice rack mountable solution with a very small footprint
and energy consumption
So the questions -
1. Should I jump on the MS Home Server band wagon?
2. Should I go for an off the shelf hardware solution or in the true
nature of HA pull my finger out and build one from scratch?
Many thanks,
Steve
