Paul,

If I attached an FM tuner to the sonos then, as you point out, I would
still have the problem of controlling the tuner. This was the initial
question I posed so the sonos doesn't add anything to the solution. It
might give me a way of having the FM tuner played throughout the whole
house but again, I just need the upstairs bathroom.
=20
Having said that and looking into Sonos a bit more, you are right in
that the stations I mainly listen to are available as a stream to Sonos
so it does seem like Sonos is the solution. The only question I need
to answer myself is if I want to bite the bullet and do the whole house
audio now.

Thanks,
Pedro

Hmm... well, the SONOS has a line-in on each zoneplayer, to which you
can attach any audio device you want... you *could* attach an FM tuner..
You'd have the issue of control of the tuner to sort out though. - If
you just tend to listen to one or two stations, then you could just get
a couple of cheap FM tuners, leave each permanently tuned to one station
then select between them somehow. - if you had multiple zoneplayers, you
could obviously attach the tuners to each one. Attaching more than 1
tuner to a single zoneplayer would be a little tricker, but could be
done I guess, if you use a relay or X10 module etc. to ensure you only
turn on the tuner you want to listen to..
Having said all that of course, most FM stations these days have a web
stream you can use instead don't they? (the stations I mainly listen to
all have web streams that I've added to my SONOS).
The SONOS web interface does need a PC to host it currently. - SONOS is
based on UPnP, and the current web interface uses the windows UPnP
components to talk to the SONOS hardware. I'm not aware of any likely
change to that....
