Unlikely to work :(
Once a socket has been wet it will get corroded and persistantly cause
problems. It will also severely affect your ADSL speed as well. We had a
damp socket at work which wasn't affecting the operation of the phoen line
but out ADSL download speed was only about 274K despite being next door to
the exchange. After the socket was changed out speed was 7MEGS !!!
You could prove if it is the socket by disconnecting the BT line from the
rear of it and ringing the line with nothing connected to the end of the
wire. It should just ring ad ring when you all from your cellphone. If it
still trips the fault is on the actual line itself.
If its just the NTE5 causing the problem you can buy one from
www.solwise.co.uk to avoid any possible charges that you might get if you
call BT in. Might also be quicker !!!!

Thanks Keith,
Unless it's coincidental it seems likely to be inside at the NTE5 since the
wall has been tanked and there's a lot of condensation running it down it.
I'll take the faceplate off and see if I can get it to dry out a bit.
Cheers
