[OT] VPN advice

I currently VPN between work and home using a pair of Draytek routers.

I want to replace them as the wireless is a little flakey with Pronto
Pro's.

I assume i can create the same type of VPN using software rather than
hardware ?

At the moment it is dead easy to look at any machine on either network and
i
would like to return this type of functionality rather than single machine
to single machine.

Any suggestions/pointers greatly appreciated.
