Commonly touted misinformation (sorry Tim - no offence but wanted to clear
this up).

You can disable the local control on an X10 appliance module but that only
disables the modules ability to sense the change in the leakage current to
the appliance - it doesn't stop the leakage current itself. CFL's will
still
flash for example.

What it does do is it stops the module turning itself back on when you've
turned it off and there's something like a switched mode PSU plugged into
it
which - as it discharges - will often fool the local control into turning
back on again.

The only way not to have the local control sense current there is to use an
AD10 rather than an AM12 - some of the "clone" appliance modules
might not
have the local control functionality though?
