RE: Rain Sensor - as a digital input

Looks like $40 for the wireless from Home Depot, and $18 for the wired
version from Lowes: http://tinyurl.com/lowes-sprink 
Both prices +8% sales tax.  There's also a whole load of them on
www.amazon.com<http://www.amazon.com> (search on 'rain
sensor') for similar prices.

I have the wireless version and it works fine, though I suspect the range
is fairly short, as everyone seems to have them fairly close to the
receiver.  If there's no need for you to be wireless, then save the $$ and
hassle and go wired.  According to the sprinkler company (and this is kind
of obvious) the trick is to put the sensor in an area that's representative
of the majority of your garden.  i.e. if you're south-facing, then don't
mount the sensor on the damp north-side of the house.

Works well, it has some kind of magical sponge in it that replicates the
behavior of soil, so in theory it gets wet and dries out at the same
speed.
