RE: Re: [OT] iPad query...
They will only provide up to 1amp. As it looks like the iPad draws
more than
this (2A), they are not likely to work or at least slowly charge the
battery.
The supply to the iPad has to be the battery charge current plus the
current
to operate the device, hence the backlight off bit working. For instance,
if
the iPad needs 300mA to run then this only leaves 200mA (on a single USB
port) to charge the unit and is probably way lower than the recommended
charge for the battery.

Phil,
This is not an uncommon problem with external USB-powered HDDs.
I found this on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dual-Input-USB-power-cable/dp/B003OC4KX4/ref=sr_1_4?
ie=UTF8
?ie=UTF8&qid=1286738504&sr=8-4> &qid=1286738504&sr=8-4
_But_, I can't tell if it provides data or if it's just 2 x power.
There is this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dual-Power-USB2-0-Mini-External/dp/B003WQ771Y/ref=sr
_1_49?ie=UTF8
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dual-Power-USB2-0-Mini-External/dp/B003WQ771Y/ref=s
r_1_49?ie=UTF8&qid=1286738585&sr=8-49>
&qid=1286738585&sr=8-49
But it has a Mini-B connector. Perhaps you could change the plug or use
a further adapter?
Cheers,
Steve
