Are you connecting via UNC paths (//server/share) or as a mapped drive? If
the latter, you may have an issue with cached credentials - disconnect the
mapped drive, reboot PC-2, and try again.

Will the QNAP allow anonymous connections? What filesystem are the shares
on?  Does it have a limit on number of connections (either per share, or in
total?

I have tried today (but don't normally use), I don't think there is a
limit. Will check though.

Do you have a 3rd PC you can try to connect from - this would assist in
finding out if the problem is client / server side.

MG> I have a few.... Most on Windows 7, one on XP. It is only one of the
Windows 7 PCs that will not connect to a specific share on the NAS.

Are both win7 boxes the same edition?

MG> I have PCs with XP Pro (1), and Win 7 Home Premium (2), Ultimate (2)
and Enterprise (1). It is one of the Ultimates that won't connect.

Both member of same
workgroup/"homegroup"? Is the a domain controller in play?

MG> I don't use Homegroup at all.

Is there anything in the event logs on PC-2 that could elaborate on the
issue? How about logs on the QNAP?

Apologies if all of the above is obvious/already been done, I'm just
reeling
off what I would do/check in your situation......and it has been a long
time
since I wore my SysAdmin hat!

MG> Frustration levels reached fever pitch this evening, so I have gone
for a full re-install of Win7 Ultimate. As soon as I could after the
install before I'd installed anything else (including antivirus) I tried to
connect to the NAS and am getting exactly the same problem.....
