RE: MultiRoom FreeSat

Hi Peer,

I'm not currently using Satellite for any of my TV feeds. All my content
is delivered by Terrestrial / Broadband.

What added value do you feel you get from having access to Satellite
content? Do you subscribe (make a payment) to some of the satellite
content providers and do you think the additional complexity / expense of
a satellite enabled system is justified by the additional content
available?

Adding a second satellite to the mix suggests even more 'valuable' content
is available or do you have specific requirements such a multi-language or
a specific channel(s) that you are interested in?

I ask because in the early analogue days I went to great trouble picking
up Discovery and other channels using a motorised dish with Co-ax cables
distributing the content but have moved more towards a PVR based system
that allows me to have what I like on demand (having recorded it sometime
earlier or occasionally streaming live events/news from the PVR) rather
than scanning the airwaves for something to watch.

The other advantage to me of using a PVR is that all my receivers are
centrally located and the content is distributed by IP (CAT5e) using
RaspberryPIs running XBMC behind the TVs. This also means all the content
is available on all the viewing devices along with the system keeping
track of what you have watched or where you stopped watching something so
you can easily resume. I can also run XBMC on the PCs and Laptops, via
WiFi, but don't typically do this because there is usually a TV handy...

As I say just interested to know what you see as the benefits of a
distributed satellite based system.

BR

Nigel

Perfectly explained. I just want to add what I did: Quattro LNB connects
to a multiswitch. From multiswitch it goes to all my receivers. I have a
5-8 multiswitch to allow for the quattro and a terresterial antenna in,
and up to 8 receivers out. Thinking about going to a 9-8 for two
satellites.
