I've looked at xAP and I am sure it could be supported quite
easily. It didn't exist when I wrote my own home control system but
the underlying concepts are similar. My system is message based
too. It uses multi-threaded Java and web sockets for inter-process
comms. <br><br>The main difference is that I have one
master process that 'sees' everything going on in my smart
home. This means that it makes all the decisions with full 'whole
house' context. <br><br>Having said that, it is also a
distributed smart home. Some elements have an RPi which makes some local
decisions, e.g. our conservatory - <a rel="nofollow"

These still report back important stuff to the core HCS process
though.<br><br>My AI engine calls a few simple Java methods to
query and control objects and set attributes
. These could easily be updated to work with a whole bunch of
different technologies. <br><br>My HCS design is based on it
being a hybrid technology solution where technologies come and go and I
interface them as and when required. I have used X10 in the past and
replaced it with Z-Wave very easily. Most of it uses wired sensors and
devices using Ethernet I/O cards. I've got lots of 1-Wire stuff
too. I just use the best (price/performance/reliability) technology for
each task.<br><br>I've not used HomeVision or
Homeseer.<br><br>Rob
