Hi Marcus,
We do always seem to be treading the same path ... I'm also evaluati=
ng the two and undecided. Each has a significant issue for me.
For my home it would seem that I would need three evoHome controllers a=
nd three gateways and unfortunately each would then operate as an
indepen=
dent system which doesn't seem too manageable for us. evoHome don't offer
=
any RF repeaters and it's essentially a wireless range issue, plus the
numb=
er of radiator valves needed. So that's a bit of a problem. I'm hoping
=
a next generation product might offer a better solution with maybe the
thre=
e controllers communicating with each other as one system.
HeatGenius as my other alternative has some issues with stored hot water=
control - there is no HW temperature sensor available so no smart integra=
tion beyond a timed demand and therefore no real allowance for a hot water
=
priority system where a heat request might not be deliverable for some
time=
if the stored water first needs significant warming. This is probably tol=
erable but not ideal. I had also hoped for some modulating control of
th=
e boiler rather than just on/off but that might be a red herring in terms
o=
f the practical benefit. I was going to wait and see what the current
b=
eta release added as that's due for release any time now but with no API
av=
ailable until year end it looks a bit 'closed' for me currently and so
it's=
likely I'm going to wait this one out too.

I'm looking at the EvoHome and HeatGenius but am favouring the HeatGenius

a reasonably large house (7beds) and 4 rooms have double rads so I'd be lo=
oking at eventually having something like 13 smart TRV's and PIR's which
ce=
rtainly pushes the price up.
Given the number of rads I'm not entirely happy at going the battery
operat=
ed route but anything hardwired pushes the cost up even higher and makes
fo=
r a harder install. I guess in the longer term I could look at running a
po=
wer supply cable around the house to each TRV.
Does anyone currently have the system installed or have any opinions on it

I think you are the one actually WALKING the
path, I’m just peering down it without actually doing
