These days you would be best using HDMI. Optical may work, but crucially
depends on make of TV as to whether it will pass your external HDMI sources
of surround sound out of the optical port. And optical - if it works - will
only do this in AC3 (Dolby Digital) - now regarded as rather old skool,
though perfectly functional.<br><br>My recent Sony KDL40W705
does pass AC3 through (and transcodes freeview HD which is AAC-LC into
AC3), but others may not, and manufacturers largely don&#39;t advertise
this amount of detail, even in their manuals.&nbsp; My Sony decision
was partly based on this somewhat dated and US-centric article, where all

BTW.<br>Check out CPC for a range of wall plates, they carry a range
of combo plates, in addition to your &quot;fancy&quot;
box.</p><p>You can also use off-the-shelf modular jacks
available from lots of electrical suppliers if you don&#39;t need it to
look pretty because you&#39;re designing a hidden recess as part of
your
project.<br></p><p><br></p><p>Remember
you&#39;ll need a network connection to your TV as well, better than
wireless. <br>If it were me, that would be at least 2 x network ports
as you can use CAT5/6 for a variety of (perhaps unforeseen) things with
suitable adapters
