xAPFramework.NET reaches its first birthday today !

Hi Folks,

I've been a bit quiet recently, but very busy in the background. I
realised a while ago that today was in fact the day I first released
xAPFramework.NET a year ago.

So xAPFramework.NET is one year old today :-))

As a result I've been working on some new stuff which I hope to
release or reveal through this week. As ever, there are so many
interesting things to be done we'll just have to wait and see what
comes up.

A year ago I kept quiet about what I was working on until I had the
web site ready to go. I for one like a few surprises ;-)

A years worth of development is significant to me personally as in the
past I've usually drifted around various interests annually. Yet here,
a year on, I'm probably more invested in xAP in terms of time and
effort than ever before. That's a mark of how absorbing xAP can be.
Kevin mentioned before that it's addictive, and I can only agree.

Below is a copy of the original posting I made to the list announcing
the birth of xAPFramework. Later today I'll bring this statement up to
date to where things currently stand. Then hopefully I'll have a few
new toys available through the rest of the week.

Funnily enough it opens with a note that I'd been down with the lurgy
in the days before. Guess what? I am rarely ill, but since Sunday I've
not exactly been on top form! Unbelievable timing.

I can't believe I've been working on this for (over) a whole year!

The documentation is still only in the early stages and I wrote a
short Programmer's Guide document this afternoon. The best thing is
probably to have a gander at the sample applications if this is of any
interest to you. They've been my test harnesses up 'til now, but I
always intended them to perform a sample code role too.

The library is built using C# and Microsoft VisualStudio.net 2003
(Final Beta). It definitely works with the .net Framework v1.1. I
haven't tried it with v1.0.

xAPFramework.net is currently split into two main modules:
- the xAPMessage.dll which provides message handling/parsing facilities
- and xAPTransport.dll which provides all the transport related classes.

This means you can opt to use only the xAPMessage component if that
fits your needs best.

It's really an exercise to allow me to learn about .net, as well as do
something useful/reusable/fun.

I've also got a lot of things to add to it, so it's an ongoing
development. I'll post here and/or on the site when new things are
available.
