I seem to have missed the start of this thread - can someone point me
to a URL?

I have got IR send and receive working in a limited capacity with my
20x4 VFD displays using a rabbit - it's not really a cost effective
way to go though, and I'm now beginning to think that a display +
zoned IR distribution from Node 0 might be a better bet. So long as
you don't need/want to redistribute the original signal, but only
perform an action, the IrMan interface is a very quick and easy route.

I've built menuing into the display driver, and it currently allows
only for static choices. Getting the UI element right will be
interesting - Harmony makes a great job of IR friendly control, and
I'd like to "borrow" some of their approaches. I suspect that for
my
needs, the menu structure itself doesn't need to be terribly dynamic -
the ability to substitute values from the cache (e.g. current
temperature setpoint) into a formated menu item, and then map a menu
choice to a message template should be enough - plus some simple
widgets to allow up/down/choice selection...
