Enabling Email Display on SliMP3s

*** PART 1 ***

There are 3 components you need to do this. When you get advanced you
can combine them together into a single entity though, so don't worry
about all the windows running.

1. Make sure you've got the Microsoft .net Framework installed first
of all! Links all over the place on my home page I think.

2. Now you need the SliMP3 Connector application.

I'd choose the Console version for now, and later install the Windows
Service when you're happy it's all working.

This application is what links, or connects if you like, certain types
of xAP message on the LAN to your Slims. The xAP messages can do all
sorts of things but they need to get to the Slim first.

3. Once you've unpacked it, edit the SliMP3Connector.exe.config file
in Wordpad. Scroll down to the bottom and read the section entitled:

You just need to adjust one parameter here I suspect:

Change value=Server to the name of the machine on your network where
you installed the SliMP3 Server s/w.

You may need to alter the CLI (Command Line Interface port number too,
but the default should work in all cases nowadays:

Just ignore the other parameters for now, they're for when you want to
customise the xAP environment more to your liking.

4. Now fire up the connector. And its startup screen should tell you
that it found the Slim server and that you have 'x' players, and what
their names are etc.

5. OPTIONAL
5a Finally you want to test that it's working okay. You'll find an
enormous pile of sample xAP messages in the "SampleMessages"
folder.
The easiest way to send these is to use the "Send xAP Messages from
files" application from further down this page:

Just install that and it'll associate .xAP files with itself.

5b. Then go back to SampleMessages and 2x click the file named
"OSD.Display-email.xap" (which should now have a pretty little
xAP
icon on it.

As if by magic you'll find a message being displayed on your SliMP3.

*** PART2 ***

1. The next part is to query your POP3 mailboxes to find out what mail
you have available. You need to tell this application:

What mail server's to query, and also the username and password. This
will then regularly poll each of the mailboxes you tell it (it can do
any number you require) and whenever it detects new mail messages it
generates a xAP message in a particular form.

2. Once again edit the POP3.exe.config file and scroll down looking
for the last section, titled:

There are lots of comments in here that are all self explanatory I
think, but the one you want to tweak up are the very last 3. These
describe your mail hosts, usernames and passwords.

Stick one entry In Each Line for each of the mailboxes you want to
monitor. Probably best just to do one to check it all works for now.

3. Fire it up and see what it does. It should tell you about new
messages once it finds any.

4. OPTIONAL
If you get Listener from this link you can even see the xAP messages
it's outputing (best to start this first if you want to see
EVERYTHING).

*** PART 3 ***

1. Now you need the New Email OSD application:

Get the Console version for now. Same applied to the POP3 application.
It tells you what's going on easier.

2. There are some config options in the usual place that you'll be
familiar with now (NewEmailOSD.exe.config) but none you really need to
bother with for now I suspect. Read the comments in the file to find
out what you can do though.

3. Just start it up. And as if by magic you'll have email
announcements appearing on your SliMP3.
