There are two versions of this - made by different companies - basically
you
take a bog standard TW7223/523 and plug it into a 25 way moulded connector
that contains some electronics (basically a PIC). The 7223 provides raw X10
information - basically the zero crossing synchronised data - so it is hard
to work with ( slow serial data stream but not ascii). The widget converts
this to A10 ON etc .
This I think is one of them
<a href="http://www.smarthome.com/1160.html">http://www.smarthome.com/1160.html</a>
- maybe Weeder made the other but the old link I have is 404
This is a link to the Microchip official PIC / x10 tech note

And this is the PLIX chip which may be in one of them

Now as to where these serial things came from - I know Li at Laser had some
and mine came from a guy in Europe - NL I think who was selling a load of
X10 stuff off at a good price. He may still be around - it was on the UKHA
list about 18 months back.
The CM12U is known to suffer some heat related issues and also some lockup
issues - either going unresponsive or constantly sending data onto the
mains. I have three of these and I have problems with 2 of them - one works
fine though. I don't use any of the inbuilt control schedules.
