Yes I noticed the difference but there doesn't appear to be any
difference in the settings in WINS. Overall, the only real difference in
their configurations is that the working machine receives a fixed IP
address from the DHCP server whereas the test machine is assigned
dynamically.

The only obvious difference is that the working machine is a
"broadcast"

DHCP client, wheras the non-working machine is a "hybrid."

The difference is in how the machine resolves NetBIOS names, which
doesn't seem to be related at all to the error message you're getting.
It may, however, be worth changing the WINS settings on the non-working
machine to match those of the working one. (Control Panel / Network /
<your connection> / TCP/IP properties / Advanced / WINS)

TBH, I doubt this will make a blind bit of difference, but I've spent
too long in IT support to _not_ try the "change setting to match a
known

good config" :-)
