Hi Paul,
=20
Not sure what is going on there as I got this working ok. I have it
on my laptop (XP Pro) and can see the drives sizes on my SBS2003 box are
all your machines in the same domain and are you(well Ping) running as
admin.
=20
=20
Regards

I tried that but still no luck :-( I guess I need to try another target
machine - XP rather than W2K3 Server to narrow the failure down to the
server.

I've not sure if this will help but try this on the destination pc , ie
not the one running ping
Start > Run
type MMC and hit enter
File > add snap in
Find WMI Control in the list and add
select local computer
Back in the main window right click on WMI Control [Local] and select
properties
Securtiy tab
highlight root and click the security button
Add the account that ping runs under and tick the boxes, especially
"remote enable"
Hopyfully that will fix things
James
Paul Gale wrote:=20
It gives a permission denied message.

I think it might be something to do with the permissions within WMI on
the server. I also get a problem running the MS Exchange Best Practices
tool from this PC trying to connect to the server (cannot connect via
WMI). I've tried a number of different accounts including admin but no
luck.
=20
Anything else you can think of - or do you know what kind of permissions
you need in WMI???

Paul,
could you try this updated exe
http://www.mi4.biz/files/xapping3/ping3_beta_1c.zip
<http://www.mi4.biz/files/xapping3/ping3_beta_1b.zip>=20
=20
as well as fixing that tabbar error you reported, it should give a
better clue as to why the drive check isn't working. Now, when the scan
fails it should now correctly show the red blob and have a tool tip as
to why. The same is also available on the edit screen for that scan too.
If nothing obvious pops up could you send the respective Item=3D line
from the settings.txt file.
=20
Thanks

Does Ping need to run on the remote PC being monitored?
No, just needs permissions to access the remote pc. It is using the
standard windows WMI to to the checking, using an XP host i've checked
2k3 and 2k so it does work!=20
Just checking when you picked the "Windows : DriveSpace", you did
click
update which then revealed the computername/drivename boxes and computer
name is just the computername with no extras and the drive name is the
drive letter to be checked?
=20
I couldn't find the service on the local machine that Ping is running on
- does this need to be installed differently i.e. is there a service
option?
It's not default just an option. if you go to all programs > mi4.biz
>
Service you should see the service install/uninstall options.
James
=20
Thanks,

Paul,
The computer name should just be the computer name and have no \\ or \
around it. Also the program needs to run with an account with enough
privileges to connect to the remote pc. By default if running as a
service the app will run as a local system account, just go to admin
tools, services and the properties of the ping service and change it to
something like a domain admin account.
