The penny finally dropped.

My confusion was because I could not understand how to construct the
target parameter as shown below, however it (the devices) is shown in
the SlimServer Connector properties - SlimServer Properties.

My notes in the hope they will help any others so challenged :-)

target=KCSoft.SliMP3.james:Slimp

KCSoft = Vendor
SliMP3 = Device
james  = Name of server
Slimp  = Player name as defined by SlimServer

Target is only required if you want to display to an individual device
otherwise it will be picked up by any device listening for this message.
