Sounds like you are doing everything correctly. The error suggests the
key is wrong though. Two things spring to mind for checking. When you
copied the key in was there a leading or trailing space? Is the url you
entered into google exactly the same as the one in the browser when you
view a switchboard page?
Google maps are just html so no need to do anything with the firewall.
