That's very good to hear - I have not installed yet indoor sensors
(delivered already), but I wanted to play on safe side (as always).

I would prefare solution, where all (possible) measurements are as
independent as possible (if I have to invest on them) and open. Some day I
might be w/o PC on "critical" oper. (incl. temperatures), so
remote-USB is not my pref. choice.

just basically an IP connected virtual serial port. If so it is very likely
that all PC applications that worked with the USB version would also work
with the LAN version, as that is also effectively a virtual serial port
connection.

I understand, but my idea is to find/get "officially"
xAP-compatable sub-systems ;-) . I want to get it up and running (after
this long search) easily (and as open as possible for future
"ideas"

an RFXmitter unit so I can't test it for you either.

changes the fundamental way the transmitter works. It is not backwards
compatible with any application that supports the standard RFXCOM
transmitters. Only two applications - the xPL plugin and the HomeSeer
plugin support this device.

weather station however ? Do you not just want a receiver so you can
listen to the data it sends, or does your weather station both transmit and
receive RF data too - never heard of one that does that.

I don't want that eather, thats what I was asked to take from RFXCOM :-(

So I have same problem ("I am not sure") - I specified very
clearly (I hope) to RFXCOM what I need (LAN, xAP, only receiver for OS) and
asked for right product code, but I got confusing answers (at least for
me). I don't want to spend that much just to see that I have a limitation
in my hand (like OS now).

needs testing.

usinga different protocol that only works with the two software products
mentioned. However the standard RFXCOM transmitter I believe works with all
applications although it is slightly less efficient in the way it handles
transmitting data.

As above - I would appr. tested systems at this stage of project. I am sure
I will get in troubles sooner or later...

On my agenda :-) , thanks for confirming that right way to go :-)

be the chosen automation 'engine' and what other devices will you be
integrating into it ?

Looks like OPNODE (opn-max). HA system is BIG word for my system, which I
expect to collect accurate data for external analysis and few
home/away-like special features / distributed simple optimazers.

But I would like to leave door open for future (X10, IRDATEC etc.)...

Great spelling mistake from my side: I ment actually "not a" :-)
Not now and not in near future - but pushing things as integrator: YES

Done :-)
